Public Security Directorate (PSD) released an awareness message featuring a video that captures a driver committing a serious traffic violation during peak hours in broad daylight on one of Amman's streets.

The Directorate urges the public to seek assistance from PSD patrols by calling the emergency number 911 if their vehicles break down or if they encounter any road obstacles. The service is available 24/7 to provide help and support.

Here are some violations and their penalties:

  • A driver can face one to two months in jail, a fine ranging from JD 200 to JD 300, or both, for driving a vehicle without brakes or with faulty brakes, driving without front or rear license plates, driving recklessly or performing stunts on the road, or running a red light, according to the 2023 amended traffic law.
  • A fine ranging from JD 50 to JD 100 applies to those who abruptly change lanes, drive in the wrong lane, drive against traffic, violate no-entry signs, drive in convoys that obstruct traffic, or allow passengers to stick parts of their bodies out of the vehicle.
  • A JD 50 fine is imposed on drivers who use a handheld mobile phone while driving.
  • A JD 20 fine is given to anyone who stops their vehicle at accident sites without a valid reason.
